The Pioneer Woman Cooks: A Year of Holidays
By Ree Drummond
William Morrow Cookbooks, 2013. 400 pgs. Nonfiction
Popular blogger Ree Drummond has come out with her third cookbook, which focuses on holiday food throughout the year. Starting with "New Year's Day" - with recipes like "Resolution Smoothies," continuing with "The Big Game" (Buffalo Chicken Bites, Potato Skins, Sliders) and on through Christmas and New Year's Eve, this book has every holiday in-between covered. Each section is also preceded by a "Do-ahead Game Plan" with an outline for what you need to do to prepare for the big day: anything that you can freeze, chop, or lay out ahead of time will go there.
Besides being charming and helpful, this book is a pleasure to flip through. The photos and graphics are lush and most recipes have a photo for every single step. Add to that many idyllic photos of Drummond's ranch life and her thoughtful, funny introductions to each section and recipe, and this book is pretty much delectable. Highly recommended for the coming holidays or any time of year.
