The Last Word: A Spellman Novel (Spellman #6)
By Lisa Lutz
Simon & Schuster, 2013. 352 pgs. Mystery.
In her latest volume of the Spellman Files series, Izzy Spellman is in charge of her parents' private investigation company, having effected a hostile takeover of management. But being in charge is not all it has cracked up to be. Besides struggling to pay the bills, it appears she is being framed for embezzling money from her increasingly forgetful client and backer. Will this spell the end for Spellman Investigations?
Lutz's books are unique, to say the least. Her expository style (all presented as a series of documents and case files, like you might find in a private investigator's filing cabinet), lends an air of verisimilitude to her books. The writing is extremely engaging and the characters quirky, but completely relatable at the same time.
