Without a Summer (Shades #3)
By Mary Robinette Kowal
Tor Books, 2013. 368 pgs. Fiction.
In this third book of her Glamourist series, Mary Robinette Kowal brings her heroes, Jane and David Vincent, back to England to continue creating glamours to the delight of the English upper classes. But when chance keeps the winter snows coming deep into April and May, Jane and Vincent must find a way to keep tempers from flaring and blame from being laid at the feet of the innocent coldmongerers, without knowing that each step they take draws them deeper into an intricate plot for power.
Kowal's Glamour series (Shades of Milk and Honey being the first) is a really unique take on historical fiction, combining the history of Regency England with a fantastical touch of glamour magic. This third volume was gripping, with the plot twisting its way to a stunning conclusion. A great read for lovers of historical fiction.
