Carver: A Life in Poems
By Marilyn Nelson
Front Street, 2001. 103 pgs. Young Adult Nonfiction
In a series of poems, Marilyn Nelson provides an overview of botanist and educator George Washington Carver. Readers get glimpses of his drive to receive an education and then in turn to share his knowledge with others through his work at Tuskegee College and through personal relationships. Carver's faith and kindness are portrayed, and while readers may need to do some additional research to understand all of the poems, this is a great introduction to a highly interesting individual.
