Will Stanton turns eleven years old only to discover that he is one of the "old ones"--ancient and powerful beings who over a period of hundreds or even thousands of years have fought against the evil forces of "The Dark." During the story Will slips between through time into different centuries gathering the information and artifacts needed by the old ones in vanquishing the dark.

This is actually the 2nd in the series of the same title, The Dark is Rising, but I must say that is was a much more interesting story than the first, Over Sea, Under Stone. I actually listened to this book on CD. Alex Jennings does a fine job of voicing the various characters.
