Enchanted, Inc

ENCHANTED, INC: Shanna Swendson: Ballantine Books: Fiction: 308 pgs.

Katie Chandler, a small-town Texas girl, always heard New York was full of weird people. But she never fully understood what “weird” meant until she moved to the Big Apple and saw people with pointed elf ears and fairy wings. She’ll never fit the big city life! Then she gets a job offer from Magic, Spells, and Illusions, Inc. and learns how being normal is an asset. Her ability to spot the magical combined with her small-town common sense makes Katie a priceless employee and gives her incredible influence in the magical world. Now, if she could only convince the powerful, sexy, and shy guy at work that she is priceless to him.

This book could have been a perfect blend of chick lit and fantasy. Katie is an enjoyable character. The magical community plays into our desire for magic in an ordinary world and is full of potential. However, the potential of magical experiences is left unfulfilled. The action doesn’t happen until the last fourth of the book. The plot needs more growth. The book left me yearning for more relationship development between the characters and more magical surprises. Perhaps the sequels in this trilogy have more movement.
